If you don’t spend half your day outside on the road, stuck within the blowing horns and fumes of the buses and cars that seem to be the only thing that exist in the capital, then you simply aren’t a Dhakaite! Yes we understand that over the last ten years Dhaka city has only become more crowded and no matter how many flyovers the government is building, one problem just seems to outwit the other and we never seem to get rid of the most basic issue that is traffic! So instead of cursing it or cursing yourself and asking yourself, as to what you are doing in this city, we decided to embrace the traffic and give you some tips on how to enjoy it.
- Take that breather, you need it
In a place where time is money, and where you are in a race against time to earn as much as you can, a traffic jam can actually be a blessing in disguise. Think about it, you wake up in the morning, you go to work, your boss has dumped everything on you and you have a deadline which can perhaps make you go crazy. And then by the time work gets over its evening and you’re damn tired but you still need to go attend to your family’s needs. You need to buy something for your friend, mother, or any one or else they are just going to think you don’t care about them etc. With all that going on in your head, thank the traffic jams to give you that moment to yourself and just breathe and not think about work for a while.
2. Music the ultimate healer
When was the last time you got the opportunity to listen to some really good music? No, we are not talking about the radio, we are talking about your own choice of songs. If you have car get a good sound system, if you use the bus or are on bike, get a good pair of headphones because they can actually change your life! Ensure that you have the right play mix for your journey right before you leave home for work. Sure it may be a bit irritating to change your playlist every week, but it can only help you take your mind away from work and the traffic and enjoy.
3.Read that book you always wanted to
One of the most common complaints that we have is that we don’t get time to read at all. ‘I am not young any more’ is what many say. If you carry that book that you have always wanted to finish reading with yourself every day, then trust us on this, you won’t have a clue as to how time has flown by. No matter how advanced life has become, there’s no better joy then reading a novel that gets you hooked. So put those 20 to 30 minutes into some good use and read. Whether it’s a book or the newspaper, it helps.
4. Jot down your things to do list
You have had a busy week and you haven’t had time to complete a number of things that you ought to have done. Well here’s your opportunity. Rather than contemplating about life, something which we all tend to do when we are stuck in a jam, note down your personal aims and make it a point to work towards them. It may be thinking about your financials, or planning a trip with your family or even planning your marriage. Jotting these down eventually helps you figure out best steps that you can take in the future.
5. Make those phone calls
If you haven’t been in contact with anyone of your friends in the recent past then now is a good time to make that contact. Not only it will build your relationship, it will also make you feel better. You could also use this opportunity to talk to anyone (can be your family members) if you haven’t been in touch with them. So call you mom, or that friend whom you have been meaning to meet and make a plan, because these things are important too.
On a funnier note you can always take photos of you and your friend. After all there’s nothing more jolly then a silly photo shoot and then making a fool out of yourselves by uploading them on facebook. Hope you all get stuck in many more fun-filled traffic jams in the future!
